Promoting healthy lifestyles is of importance for all countries. Some are convinced that governments should take measures to help people have more healthy lifestyles. However, others believe that individuals should decide about their own way of life.

There are some clear benefits to government intervention in terms of the public health. Not all people are educated to be able to decide what is healthy and unhealthy for them. In many countries, especially developed countries, many people do not know about healthy lifestyles. Therefore, some healthy services must be mandatory, such as vaccination. If it is voluntary and some people decide not to get vaccinated, they might pose a threat to other people's health. For instance, when a group of people avoid getting the covid-19 vaccine, they can spread this contagious disease to other people.

On the other hand, having the right to decide about your own health can have some advantages. It is one of the most fundamental human rights to have freedom regarding anything, and health should be an exception. This can promote a democratic society, where people can make decisions about different aspects of their lives. In addition, everyone knows their bodies best. Not all the government's advice works for everyone. For example, the government might announce that the best way to lose weight is to join a sports centre to be able to work out on a daily basis. Nevertheless, there are people who do not like such activities and might prefer to go to a nearby park to do exercise.

In conclusion, in my opinion, government actions can help all citizens to have healthy lifestyles, especially illiterate ones and can avoid infectious diseases to from spreading throughout the country using compulsory vaccination. Nonetheless, I believe that since it’s a human right to have freedom, people should be able to decide what to do about their health, since a one-size-fits-all solution might not pay off for all citizens. Thus, a balanced approach, where the government provides guidance and necessary regulations, and people still have their freedom for some choices.
